(A DISTANT GRIEF is about the persecuted Christians in Uganda and is a compelling witness to the Western Church. It confirms the truth that in suffering is the glory, richness and power of Jesus Christ known fully. The force of the underworld is expressed as the book recounts the diabolical mind and actions of Idi Amin/5(14).

I first read "A Distant Grief" in the early 's. It is a very powerful story that is not at all just about the persecution under Idi Amin, which is an incredible story in itself, but it is about those deep themes that recur in the life of a Christian who desires a closeness with God and a life of the greatest meaning/5.

A Distant Grief is one of the most powerful books I've ever read, and I wish everyone would read it. Kefa's writing transcends what I expect of a biography or a missionary story. The issues he struggles with, heightened by the setting of a horrific time and place, highlight what ought to be (but in the comfortable West often aren't) the primary issues for all Christians/5.

The author, Bart Ziino, has written on war memorials, Gallipoli, and the Australian memory of war. The thesis on which this book is based won the Australian Historical Association's Serle Award for.

A Distant Grief examines the role of war graves and cemeteries in private grief and mourning. Sixty thousand Australians perished during the First World War. So how did their families, on the other side of the world and without the bodies of their dead, attempt to come to terms with their loss.

The argument of the book is the juxtaposition between administrative efficiency and personal grief, and this is reflected in Ziino’s use of his sources. As well as the bureaucratic archives of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and other bodies, Ziino draws on personal letters and communications in family archives, and the human stories.

"She was dirty and dusty. Her curly hair had seen neither a comb nor water for months. In one hand she carried a package of cigarettes and in the other a solvent rag." Young Namusisi had no home, n.

A search of books on Bereavement and Loss will show you that thousands of grief books have been written. The majority of these books are either the stories of different people’s struggles with their losses, or books that offer intellectual reasons to deal with this most painful of emotional issues.

Neither of these offers any real assistance to new grievers struggling with their own pain.
